Default having some trouble

hey guys

I just started a Warrior pvp-only character and am finding it very difficult. I am new to the game and this is my first time trying pvp.

I have been doing Random Arenas and, in most games people, usually call me a newb but sometimes they do also tell me one thing I am doing wrong. I've been able to correct the things they mention but it can be difficult learning from "frenzy victim" or "vamp to death war".

This probably not an efficient way to learn, is extremely discouraging and wastes my team's time. Is there somewhere I could learn these basic things? I've been doing a lot of searches and although I've found some general ones useful (such as target selection), many are too advanced for me.

An example of what I am doing wrong might be attacking a monk in some type of stance, or using frenzy when I am being attacked. I have no idea what's going on in a battle, will I just have t learn what all of the skills do throigh experience?

As you know, Frenzy allows you to hit much faster, enabling you to pump up extra damage, but you're taking twice as much damage.

People calling you a frenzy victim basically mean that you died or Frenzy, or took a lot of damage because of that stance. That's why every build with frenzy in it also has a second stance (usually Rush). Use Rush to cancel your frenzy (you can only by affected by one stance at a time) when you're taking damage or are about to take some (eg. Warrior rushing towards you because he noticed you're on frenzy), this requires reflexes and field awareness. You need to know what kind of damage they've got, and use frenzy efficiently, to hit faster, and cancel it if it's becoming an extra weight for your monk, or life threatening.

About the Vamp to death, I don't really know what they could be talking about. But for example, at the beginning of the battle, take your vampiric weapon off. Every axe warrior should get at least 3 axes equipped, Vampiric for extra damage, Zealous for energy management, Elemental damage axe.

The point of the elemental damage axe (hammer/sword wars need it too, it's essential to any melee class) is to bypass the inherent armor bonus warriors have against physical damage. Take a look at your armor, you've got an inherent +20vsPhysical damage on every piece. By using an elemental weapon, you'll bypass it and deal more damage, which is what a warrior is supposed to do.

Then again, warriors usually bring Sentinel insignia, which give them +20AL against elemental as well, so you'd have to try both and see which one will be more efficient. I personally like to use elemental damage weapons on monk as well in RA, for the only reason that if you're the main damage dealer (you should be), the monk will be likely to switch to a shield with a bonus against slashing damage (blunt if hammer). By taking element, they would have to find the element you're hitting with, and they'd most likely think it's zealous, so they'd still camp their slashing shield.

EDIT: Monks in RA bring Bonetti's Defense, which makes them block 75% of attacks and give them 5 energy whenever they block. Hitting through it gives them a HUGE advantage since you're gonna fill up their energy pool in no time, yes you'll learn what the skills do, it's an essential part of pvp, you need to know the effect of skills to be really efficient and aware of what to do.

The most difficult obstacle for newer players is determining what you don't know or what you need to improve on. When you are still learning the absolute basics of the game, you may learn better in one of the PvP training areas. A good place to start is the Zaishen Challenge where you fight versus AI bots playing per-determined builds. You are also likely to learn faster using a meta skill bar, such as Shock Axe or Dev Hammer. These pages also include equipment recommendations (which you should follow as your unlocks allow) and pretty basic tips on using the skills. Make sure you unlock and use a single Stonefist Insignia on your headgear, as it makes your knockdowns (Warrior's specialty) last 3 seconds instead of 2 (unless otherwise stated).

Before returning to Random Arenas, you should be confident in your ability to do the following:
  • Identify where you can do the most damage (ie, which target)
  • Watch for the use of defensive skills and change to a different target
  • Make sure you see when an ally dies and resurrect quickly with Res Signet
  • Shock Axe - "Cancel" Frenzy when you are taking big damage by using Rush
  • Shock Axe - Use Shock to interrupt key skills like Res Signet, Troll Unguent, etc WITHOUT running yourself out of energy (each use temporarily lowers your maximum energy pool)
  • Dev Hammer - Only use Flail on knocked down foes or when you can use Enraging Charge to cancel
  • Dev Hammer - Become used to "quarterknocking" which is knocking down a foe immediately after he stands up (use Flail right after hitting a foe with Dev Hammer, use Crushing Blow or a normal hammer attack, then wait about 1/4 of a second, then use Hammer Bash. If you Hammer Bash too soon, its knockdown will not work)

Slowly work your way down the above list, and grab a friend or several to join you. Make sure you have a human Monk or the Monk henchman, and two others of your choice. The easiest team is probably the Illusionary Weaponry team, and I would suggest practicing mostly against them since some of the other teams can be very challenging and frustrating without coordinated human allies, or at least a human Monk.

One of the better Warrior guides is here, it is a little dated but the general principles still apply:

Welcome to GW.Well PvP can sometimes be simple and sometimes a bit harder.
I assume ''frenzy victim'' is you were in Frenzy a bit too long.True,it gives you a higher attack rate, but it makes you suffer more damage.Best thing would be to take another stance to cancel Frenzy.
And yes as Zozio said you do need more weapon sets.
The thing you need to do is figure out what kind of (for example) warrior build you feel the most comfortable with.----Hammer is KD!!!!Axe is nice Damage and Sword is well...dmg too :P
*You could check some Warrior guides as well. It's a good idea to attack the same target as your teammates when they ping.Always crush the squishies first!
I hope I've been of any help, but just training and you'll be fine.

frenzy victim means you didn't cancel out of frenzy and the opposing team was able to kill you easier because of the 2x damage you received. always be aware of the field. frenzy is probably the best IAS you can use, but you have to stay aware.

vamp to death was probably directed at you keeping the vampiric weapon equipped before the match started. switch to another weapon without that mod until you get into the fight so you aren't starting out at a disadvantage.

and of course zozio said you need to take a vampiric/zealous/and elemental weapon, but also bring a spear with 10% furious. it can help to throw the spear while everyone is staying back so you can build up adrenaline beforehand. however i find myself not using elemental weapons anymore. a lot more warriors seem to be catching on & use sentinal's insignias which makes their elemental and physical armor levels the same, so i tend to stick to vampiric.(i think a lot of this has to do with pvx saying to do so now)

thanks guys very useful info

I was using the shock axe build but now I am also trying the Devastating Hammer build.

I have read 'Guide to target selection in RA - by Jeydra' and I was wondering if Hammer warriors have the same target selection as Axe warriors?

I also read about the quarter knocking and I'm not sure who I should be chaining stuns on. If my team has to focus on say a Domination Mesmer, should I be chaining my stuns on him?

I 've been practising quarter knocking on the dummies but I am unsure of how to play hammer, in general, outside of quarter knocking. Do you chain stuns all the time or do you sometimes just do one stun with Crushing Blow?

I'm not trolling . yes I am really this bad

Honestly, I think you're trolling but I'll give you my advice anyway.

Always pm people and ask them politely if they can tell you what you're doing wrong (if those are RA people I wouldn't ask for too many advices on builds). Some will help you and some won't, that's normal.
Observe other people, copy their builds, it's quite unlikely that in this old game you can make a build by yourself that is stronger than a regular "meta" build. Playing strong and efficient builds is the best way to learn. When you get more comfortable with those you can start experimenting with various things, but first get good with the standard thing.

I have the same problem but I'm an assassin.

Does anyone have any tips for me?

I do seem to get quite a lot of abuse as well but tend to just ignore it since I only started playing like not even 2 weeks ago haha
